I guess the pandemic was a life-changing event for many of use, but I managed to keep busy and healthy. What disrupted our lives in a big way was deciding to move house. We’d been talking about it for years. We wanted to find somewhere a) with a smaller garden, and b) in a village or town, where you could walk to get a pint of milk, or see a friend. Anvil Cottage was lovely, and our garden was admired by all our friends, but neither of us is a gardener by nature. As for being in Hammer Vale—delightful place, but a pain to have to get into a car to do any sort of shopping, or to see friends. You would not want to be a pedestrian along Hammer Vale! The COVID-inspired stamp duty holiday was the spark that inspired us into action, and we moved south to the coast in June 2021 to a house the same sort of size as Anvil Cottage, but with a tiny garden. We’re in Westbourne, a busy little village just outside Emsworth, with a Co-op, a very good Indian restaurant, a very good fish-and-chip shop, a café, a pharmacy, two pubs… what else could we want!

But we put a lot of time and effort into creating the website, and I’d be sad to see it abandoned. There’s no question that it offers a bigger and more flexible canvas for creative expression than Instagram offers—for all of the latter’s ease and speed of use.
