I’ve written about WeFiFo before. They promote supper clubs and pop-up restaurants, and I’ve held a couple of events at my place through them. As part of their drive to advertise the idea of supper clubs WeFiFo’s Seni Glaister arranged a studio discussion with BBC Surrey and Sussex—over lunch prepared by three cooks who have held WeFiFo events. The radio presenter was Joe Talbot, who fronts weekly afternoon show Feelgood Friday from their Guildford studios.

I met some terrific, inspiring people. Laura Scott made delicious prawn fritters and fresh-baked bread; Lerato Umah-Shaylor brought along her fabulous gourmet brownies; and Rupert Pritchett of Taurus Wines was there to recommend wines to go with each course.

I cooked the main course: what I call my ‘lazy rendang’ Indonesian chicken curry (because you cook it for a couple of hours, not the five or six hours it takes to make proper, thick Indonesian beef rendang), with royal fragrant rice, vegetable fritters, Asian slaw salad—and, of course, a hot red chilli sauce on the side.

It was all huge fun. And it has to be said, although the studio kitchen wasn’t the most sophisticated I’ve worked in, preparing lunch for six people, then talking about it on the radio is one heck of a lot less stressful than most of my jobs!
